If your feet aren't tired, you aren't doing it right

The alarm was set for 6am and after a ten minute pep talk, I did manage to get out of bed and take a shower. Once I had showered I started chopping up a pepper and an onion for breakfast and eventually woke up Hannah and Emerson. We had a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs with red bell pepper, onion, and tomato and toast. I was so happy to both make and eat a homemade breakfast and have something with more protein than a slice of salami in the morning with two bread rolls and Nutella. After we had cleaned up the breakfast and finished getting ready it was 9am. Our first destination was old town square. When we showed up we found out that the stores and attractions aren’t really ready until 10 am, so we ended up just walking around the nearby area. We went in search of Jewish temple that was on our list of attractions to see, but since Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath we weren’t able to see the temple. Instead we decided to go to a fortress that was next on our list. When we got off of the tram for the stop that google maps said we should for the fortress, we ended up walking around for nearly an hour before we actually made it to the entrance of the fortress. Part of our detour on our adventures to find the entrance of the fortress was walking to the top of a guard wall that was still standing and seeing the view from there. Then we made the mistake of trying to walk on a trail that was on the backside of that wall, only to find that it led to a dead end and a very dirty feet from slipping down the dirt hillside.
The entrance to the fortress was at the bottom of the hill, so we first had to walk all the way to the top. Once we got there we walked through a cemetery that was crammed with graves and crosses, and the more extravagant ones had statues. On the other side of the cemetery it opened up into the square in front of a large cathedral where there happened to be a wedding going on. We wanted to wait to see the bride, but we were very eager to find and use the restrooms, and we missed her going into the church. We walked all around the gardens and surrounding landscape of the fortress, which had some of the most beautiful views of the city yet. I know I’ve said that there a lot of really breathtaking views, but this one takes the cake, which makes sense since it is a benefit for a fortress to be on top of a hill in order to see all that happens below. From the fortress we went in search for Wenceslas Square, however we eventually figured out that that was just old town square, which is the area we had gone to earlier in the morning. We were very hungry, so we pretty much just walked into the nearest restaurant, which happened to be Italian. Even though we are only in Prague for three days, we have managed to eat Italian twice. It wasn’t the most amazing pesto pasta I’ve ever had, but it did its job of holding me over until dinner.

After lunch we decided we really needed to go back and take a nap before we could handle more walking around in the heat, so we went back to the apartment for a little bit of relaxation. We ended up staying in until it was time for dinner, in part because we were trying to figure out where to go to dinner. The restaurant that we went to was a Thai food place that had really great Thai food that was expensive for Prague, but still came out to under $30 for four people for dinner. I got vegetable Phad Thai, which was really delicious and the perfect amount of food to fill me up without making me feel stuffed. We left the restaurant quite happy and went in search of a music bar that was on the recommended list of places to go, but once we got there and figured out there was a cover fee, we decided to just go to a bar that was closer to our apartment, but was recommended to us by one of the nice men who gave us directions that first night in Prague. His recommendation was excellent and we had a great time at Bukowski’s with their candle lit atmosphere and a large menu of every type of cocktail you could imagine. I was really impressed by the quality of the drink, especially considering the price. After a few drinks we went back to the apartment to let Emerson in, then Hannah, Mira, and I went to a convenient store and bought snacks to go back to the apartment and watch a movie before we went to bed. It was a really fantastic night, and it was a wonderful way to end our last night in Prague.
